Advantages Of Linoleum Flooring

Linoleum has been used to cover floors since the late nineteenth century. Not only has is it still in use today, but it has become more and more popular in recent years. And once you read the following advantages of linoleum flooring you’ll quickly see why.

A Green Flooring Option

Many people mistake linoleum for a type of manmade plastic. However, it’s actually made from all-natural materials. It’s primarily comprised of solidified linseed oil along with other materials such as cork dust, pine rosin, and wood flour. This allows it to be recycled and means it’s also biodegradable. So in the future, after you’re done using your linoleum flooring won’t have to feel guilty about it taking up space in your local landfill.

Long-Lasting

One of the biggest benefits of linoleum flooring is how long it can last. It’s typically estimated that with basic care, floors can last anywhere from thirty to forty years. Because of this many manufacturers will offer warranties for twenty years or more.

Linoleum is also able to handle a high amount of foot traffic without a problem and has protective layers to shield it from scratches and scuffs. Its durability makes it a commonly purchased choice by families with young children and those who have pets.

Water-Resistant

Unlike many other flooring options like carpeting or hardwood flooring, linoleum is water-resistant. While it can be used in wet areas like the bathroom linoleum shouldn’t be exposed to standing water for significant periods of time which may cause damage.

It is also used in laundry rooms and kitchens where water and liquids can be an issue for other material options. Entryways and mudrooms are popular spaces to install it as well. An annual acrylic coating is still recommended though for maximum water protection.

Heat-Resistant

Because linoleum flooring is heat-resistant it stays cool to the touch which can come in handy on hot summer days. It is also considered to be a fire retardant material making it a safe option for your home or business.

Multiple Formats

There are multiple formats to help meet different preferences and spaces. Click-and-lock linoleum is made for use with floating floors and is available in both planks and tiles. For large spaces, there’s sheet linoleum flooring which also happens to come in a wide variety of styles and colors. Tile flooring is also a choice as well and is less costly than traditional tile materials like ceramic or porcelain.

Low-Maintenance And Hygienic

Fortunately, linoleum doesn’t require much care at all to keep it clean. Basic sweeping and mopping are all it will usually need. This material also has the benefit of being antimicrobial. It’s naturally resistant to bacteria and fungus along with being hypoallergenic.

It’s not hard to see why linoleum has been and continues to be so sought after. The many advantages of linoleum flooring make it an option that is convenient for a range of spaces and consumers!
