What Are Deck Tiles?

Luckily nowadays you don’t have to actually install a costly new deck in order to be able to enjoy the look and feel of one. Deck tiles are a budget-friendly alternative that provide a deck-like flooring surface with many benefits. So what are deck tiles? Well, here are the basics!

Deck tiles are typically large square-shaped tiles that are designed to interlock with one another. For this reason, they are sometimes also known as decking squares or interlocking deck tiles. Tiles are most often made up of wooden planks and this allows them to look just like authentic decking when they are installed. However, they also come in quite a few other materials and styles as well such as composite and even stone.

Advantages Of Deck Tiles

There are quite a few benefits that decking tiles offer that make them an extremely popular flooring choice. As mentioned above one of the most well-known advantages is that they can be used to create deck-like surfaces that are both attractive and functional. However, unlike a real deck, you won’t have to hire a professional for installation. Because they are interlocking, tiles can be installed quickly and easily by anyone. And they don’t use any adhesive, nails, or screws.

Their interlocking design along with the weight of the tiles themselves keeps them in place. Using tiles also costs less than installing an actual deck, especially when you add in the fact that installation is free. Another convenient advantage of deck tiles is that they allow you to deal with repairs in a fast and efficient way since individual tiles can be removed and replaced effortlessly.

Where Are Deck Tiles Used?

Unlike many other tile types, deck tiles can be installed right over flat surfaces of all kinds. In fact, they are often used on top of existing decks to give them a brand-new look.  Placing deck tiles over concrete slabs, patios, or walkways is another popular choice.

They are also used in situations when you don’t want to install anything permanent but would like an attractive flooring upgrade. For example, in apartment buildings, they are often used as balcony floor tiles and also to create roof decks. Even though they are normally used outdoors, they can be used indoors as well.

Material Options

Wood deck tiles come in a range of different wood types such as acacia, teak, red cedar, pine, bamboo among others. Each type of wood has its own unique look but also characteristics and therefore may need different care. Tiles made from composite materials are also a choice, and some of these are made to look very similar to real wood but are even easier to maintain.

Deck tiles can also be made out of recycled materials too for those who want to be as eco-friendly as possible. Not all tiles are designed to look like an actual deck, however. There are also tiles that can be used to create stone-like surfaces and grass deck tiles when turf is needed.

There you have it; you now know the basics of deck tiles. For creating deck-like looks and more both outdoors and in, this is one type of tile that can help to save you some cash!
